Hiroaki Kitano is President and CEO of Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc., President of The Systems Biology Institute, Professor at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, Director of Laboratory for Disease Systems Modeling, RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences, Kanagawa, and Corporate Executive, Sony Corporation. He is also a Founding President of the Robocup Federation, Executive Committee Member of IJCAI and Member of the AI & Robotics Council of World Economic Forum.
He received The Computers and Thought Award from the International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence in 1993, Prix Ars Electronica 2000, Design Award 2001 from Japan Inter-Design Forum, and Nature’s 2009 Japan Mid-career Award for Creative Mentoring in Science, as well as being an invited artist for Biennale di Venezia 2000 and Museum of Modern Art, New York in 2001.

Nobel Turing Challenge: Objectives and Implications
One of the most significant challenges for AI is to develop AI systems that can make major scientific discoveries. Nobel Turing Challenge asks the questions of how we can build AI systems that can make major scientific discoveries, some of which may worth Nobel Prize, and how such system can behave autonomously to the level it is indistinguishable from real human researchers.
The working hypothesis is that scientific discovery is massive search of hypothesis space and verifications, that may bring a redefined nature of scientific intuition. At the same time, high level of autonomy may require identification of proper search space and resource access. Results of such challenge may transform scientific activities and society in an unprecedented way.
